Charlotte, North Carolina, is one of those cities you might not think of when you think of the South. It’s certainly not what you’d call the Deep South, but you know, people seem to like North Carolina, and for good reason. It’s got beaches, mountains, pleasant weather most of the time, and some great cities to live in.
If you’ve narrowed down those Charlotte houses for sale and are looking for things you can start doing once you’ve moved, why not check out some museums? Every major city in the United States is going to have some museums visitors can check out. Museums are ways to educate visitors in the region’s history and culture, as well as about the scientific world around us, and Charlotte is no different.
Here are three really cool museums for you to visit in Charlotte.
Discovery Place
First up is Discovery Place, a science and nature museum that uses exhibits to explain to visitors how science works in our modern world. You can find out how 3D printing operates, check out dinosaur skeletons, and get the background on Ripley’s Believe It or Not wonders, including optical illusions and micro-sculptures. Kids and adults alike will learn things here, including from the live presentations on chemistry, nature, and more.
Levine Museum of the New South
Next up is the Levine Museum of the New South, which documents the history of the American South in the post-Civil War world. When the nation came out of that war in 1865, slavery had bene abolished and the South was in ruins. How did the region come up into what it is today? The Levine explains it all.
The “Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers” exhibit features thousands of historical pieces, images, videos, and other information showing visitors how the South modernized and changed after the war. Of special focus is Charlotte and the surrounding areas of North Carolina. History enthusiasts will surely appreciate the Levine.
Bechtler Museum of Modern Art
Finally, you guessed it, it’s an art museum! No collection of city museums would be complete without an art museum. The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art features a ton of modern art mainly from the 20th century. Artists include Pablo Picasso himself, as well as figures such as Joan Miro, Barbara Hepworth, and Andy Warhol!
You’ll find more than 1,000 artworks here, as well as personal photos and correspondence relating to the Bechtler family that had these items in its private collection. This place is worth checking out for art aficionados.
Charlotte has these museums and a whole lot more, so if that’s your thing, you’ll have more than enough to do once you move here!
